A Fish Called "Goldie"

Two weekends ago, Michael and I were in Calgary for a friends' wedding, and Hannah spent the weekend at Grandma & Grandpa's house. Betty has a book that she often reads to Hannah called "My Goldfish Wish", in which a little girl, goes to a pet store and buys a fish to bring home and play with.

Innocent enough.

Well...Grandma decided that she wanted to take Hannah to buy a goldfish, and just keep it at her house since we have Jasper - the fish eating cat...

The fugitive...
The crime scene (circa 2004)...You can barely see my poor fish in the top right corner under the light blue toy. Jasper had climbed up on the mantle, where I had the fish and pushed him off to an untimely death.

Well, We came home to pick up Hannah, and she was so excited to show us her little "Goldie". Betty reassured us that "Goldie" would live with her, and we were fine with that. Sadly, only a day later, "Goldie" went to swim in the big fish bowl in the sky. Grandma & Grandpa were upset that Hannah's first pet had died, so they immediately went into "fix it" mode...and did their fishy research.

It wasn't long before they learned that goldfish are quite toxic to themselves and require a very well filtered tank. Upon learning this, they decided that it would be best to perhaps get Hannah a Beta fish, one that could survive in a small tank. But a small tank wasn't good enough for Grandpa. He went out and found a bigger-small tank that had a little filter with bubbles, and brought it home. He promptly put distilled water inside, and started conditioning the water for "Goldie v2.0". Betty called around town and found a store that had some gold colored beta fish (rare I am told).

Today, Grandma and Grandpa brought "Goldie v2.0" to her new home...at our house. Hannah was so excited. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment. :)

Talking about "Goldie"
Singing to "Goldie"
Saying "Hello" to "Goldie". "Goldie" getting used to her new home.
Watching "Goldie" do a tummy float. LOL. Good job Goldie! (ah...from the mouths of babes)
Giving "Goldie" a kiss.
Say "Cheese"
"Come Here, Goldie!"
Playing Peek-a-boo
"Goldie's" first meal.
Munch munch...
*sigh* the things grandparents do for their grandchildren. LOL.
All I can say is, I hope Jasper doesn't find a way to off this fish too.
